DATA PROTECTION STATEMENT
On May 25, 2018, the new European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect. This regulation also applies to Swiss companies that maintain active business relationships with citizens residing in the EU. As a retreat center and seminar venue, we also host many guests from European countries, which means that the GDPR also applies at Landguet Ried. For detailed information on data protection and, in particular, the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), please visit the website of the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) of the Swiss Confederation.
General Information
The following information provides a brief overview of what happens to your personal data when you use our website. “Personal data” refers to any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person; a natural person is considered identifiable if they can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by association with an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier (e.g., a cookie), or one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural, or social identity of that natural person.
Collection, Processing, and Use of Personal Data
We take the protection of your data seriously. You can generally use our website without providing any personal data. We treat your personal data confidentially and in accordance with applicable data protection laws and this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect and how we use it. It also explains how and for what purpose this is done.
Please note that data transmission over the Internet (e.g., when communicating via email) may be subject to security vulnerabilities. It is not possible to completely protect data from access by third parties.
How do we collect your personal data?
We only collect personal data if you voluntarily provide it to us during a reservation or inquiry process, via a contact form, or when registering for our newsletter.
Other data is automatically collected by our hosting partners when you visit the website. This primarily consists of technical data (e.g., IP addresses, internet browser, operating system, or time of page view). This data is collected automatically as soon as you enter our website.
What do we use your data for?
Some of the data is collected to ensure the website functions properly. Other data may be used to analyze your user behavior. For more details, see the sections below on Cookies, Squarespace Analytics, and Google Analytics.
We use the personal data collected exclusively to process your inquiry or booking for events or our offerings of seminar rooms, accommodations, and meals. If you sign up for our newsletter with your email address, we will use your email address until you unsubscribe from the newsletter. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time via the link in the footer of every newsletter sent to you. More details on this can be found below under Newsletter and Mailchimp.
Your personal data will NOT be shared with third parties without your express consent, unless we are legally required to do so.
Data Controller
Data processing on this website is carried out by the website operator, who is therefore the data controller:
Stiftung Landguet Ried
Hilfligweg 10
CH-3172 Niederwangen, Bern
Phone +41 (0)31 981 03 77
Email info[at]landguet.ch
The controller is the natural or legal person who, alone or jointly with others, determines the purposes and means of the processing of personal data (e.g., names, email addresses, etc.).
Withdrawal of Your Consent to Data Processing
Many data processing operations are only possible with your express consent. You may withdraw any consent you have already provided at any time. To do so, simply send us an informal email. The lawfulness of the data processing carried out prior to the withdrawal remains unaffected by the withdrawal.
Right to Data Portability
Under Swiss data protection law, users have the right to find out, free of charge, whether and what personal data the Landguet Ried Foundation has stored about them. They also have the right to have incorrect information corrected or deleted. This is subject to statutory retention requirements. For security reasons, requests for information will only be processed in writing and upon submission of a copy of an official ID. Requests for information should be directed to the Landguet Ried Foundation (see above or the legal notice for the address). Furthermore, you have the right at any time to object to the future use of your personal data for marketing purposes. Processing such a request may take several days.
The user has the right to have data that we process automatically based on their consent or in fulfillment of a contract provided to them or to a third party in a commonly used, machine-readable format. If the user requests the direct transfer of the data to another controller, this will only be done to the extent that it is technically feasible.
SSL or TLS Encryption
This site uses SSL or TLS encryption for security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential information, such as bookings or inquiries, that you send to us as the site operator. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the fact that the address bar of the browser changes from “http://” to “https://” and by the lock icon in your browser bar.
When SSL or TLS encryption is enabled, the data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.
Information, Restriction, Deletion
In accordance with applicable legal provisions, you have the right at any time to obtain, free of charge, information about your stored personal data, its origin and recipients, and the purpose of data processing, as well as the right to have this data corrected, restricted, or deleted, if applicable. For this and any other questions regarding personal data, you may contact the responsible body at any time.
Contacting Us
When you contact us (e.g., via the contact form, email, or phone) for inquiries or bookings, your personal data will be processed in accordance with Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR to handle your inquiry and process your request, and will be stored by us in case of follow-up questions. We will not share this data with third parties without your consent.
Processing of Personal Data
We collect, process, and use personal data only to the extent necessary to establish, define the terms of, or modify the legal relationship (master data). This is done in accordance with Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR, which permits the processing of data for the performance of a contract or pre-contractual measures. We collect, process, and use personal data regarding the use of our website (usage data) only to the extent necessary to enable the user to use the service or to bill for it. Information provided by group organizers or course instructors may be stored in a Customer Relationship Management system (“CRM system”) or a comparable inquiry management system.
All personal data entered by the website user in the contact form is manually transferred to the hotel software we use, protel Air. protel Air is a Property Management System (PMS) and is cloud-based. It is hosted in an Amazon data center, one of the most secure hosting providers worldwide. The company Protel has reviewed all functions of protel Air with regard to compliance with the GDPR and optimized protel Air accordingly.
Protel Air has developed new features in compliance with the GDPR so that Landguet Ried, as a user of this hotel software, can handle personal data in accordance with GDPR requirements.
Address details and other personal information are treated confidentially and used only within the scope of the contract and applicable legal data protection regulations, e.g., for processing your inquiry or booking, the reservation confirmation, the invoice, and for follow-up inquiries. They are also used for subsequent contact by mail, phone, email, or text message (SMS) by Landguet Ried.
The Landguet Ried Foundation stores personal data for 10 years, for as long as necessary to comply with applicable laws. Once the legally required retention period (10 years) has expired, protel Air anonymizes your personal data.
The processing of data entered in the contact form or on the registration form is therefore carried out exclusively in accordance with applicable laws. The lawfulness of data processing operations carried out prior to revocation remains unaffected by the revocation.
Cookies
Some websites use so-called cookies. Cookies do not harm your computer and do not contain viruses. Cookies are used to make our website more user-friendly, effective, and secure. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer and saved by your browser.
We use Squarespace as our website builder. Squarespace uses cookies to ensure that you, as a user of this website, have the best possible experience. In addition, Squarespace provides us with information about how you, as a user, interact with our website during your visit. More on this below under Squarespace Analytics.
For more information about Squarespace’s use of cookies, please visit their Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy. In connection with the entry into force of the GDPR, Squarespace has published a “Data Processing Addendum”, which explains how Squarespace processes data on behalf of the website operator.
You can configure your browser to notify you when cookies are set and to allow cookies only on a case-by-case basis, to block the acceptance of cookies in specific cases or generally, and to enable the automatic deletion of cookies when you close your browser. Disabling cookies may limit the functionality of this website.
Cookies that are necessary for the execution of the electronic communication process or for the provision of specific functions requested by you are stored on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in storing cookies to ensure the technically error-free and optimized provision of its services.
Squarespace Analytics
Squarespace Analytics is the reporting platform for our website builder. The platform—and especially the Activity Log—gives us insight into our website’s performance. With Analytics, we get a clear picture of website traffic. The Activity Log in Analytics is a searchable list that informs us about traffic on our website. For example, it shows the geographic location of our visitors based on their IP address or how visitors in specific locations find our website. It also shows which previous website visitors came from and how they interact within our website. This information is used exclusively for statistical analysis of our website’s effectiveness. This allows us to continuously evaluate and improve the utility of our website.
This data is not combined with other data sources. The legal basis for data processing is Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR, which permits the processing of data for the performance of a contract or pre-contractual measures.

Google Analytics
This website uses features of the web analytics service Google Analytics. The provider is Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA.
Google Analytics uses so-called “cookies.” These are text files that are stored on your computer and enable an analysis of your use of the website. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website is usually transmitted to a Google server in the United States and stored there.
The storage of Google Analytics cookies and the use of this analytics tool are based on Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in analyzing user behavior in order to optimize both its website and its communication measures.
IP Anonymization
We have enabled the IP anonymization feature on this website. This causes Google to truncate your IP address within member states of the European Union or in other signatory states to the Agreement on the European Economic Area before it is transmitted to the United States. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transmitted to a Google server in the United States and truncated there. On behalf of the operator of this website, Google will use this information to evaluate your use of the website, to compile reports on website activity, and to provide other services related to website and internet usage to the website operator. The IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics is not merged with other Google data.
Browser Plugin
You can prevent the storage of cookies by adjusting your browser settings accordingly; however, we would like to point out that in this case, you may not be able to use all functions of this website to their full extent. You can also prevent the collection of data generated by the cookie and related to your use of the website (including your IP address) by Google, as well as the processing of this data by Google, by downloading and installing the available browser plugin.
Objection to Data Collection
For more information on how Google Analytics handles user data, please refer to Google’s Privacy Policy.
Data Processing
We have entered into a data processing agreement with Google and fully comply with the strict requirements of German data protection authorities regarding the use of Google Analytics.

By providing your email address, you consent to the Landguet Ried Foundation staying in touch with you to send you news and information about the offerings of Landguet Ried, Center for Mindful Living. Your data will be used exclusively to provide you with information about our events and activities.

MailChimp
This website uses MailChimp to send newsletters. The provider is Rocket Science Group LLC, 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Suite 5000, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA.
MailChimp is a service that allows, among other things, the sending of newsletters to be organized and analyzed. If you enter data for the purpose of subscribing to the newsletter (e.g., email address), this data is stored on MailChimp’s servers in the United States.
MailChimp is certified under the “EU-US Privacy Shield.” The “Privacy Shield” is an agreement between the European Union (EU) and the United States designed to ensure compliance with European data protection standards in the United States.
We use MailChimp to analyze our newsletter campaigns. When you open an email sent via MailChimp, a file contained in the email (known as a web beacon) connects to MailChimp’s servers in the United States. This allows us to determine whether a newsletter message has been opened and which links, if any, were clicked. In addition, technical information is collected (e.g., time of access, IP address, browser type, and operating system). This information cannot be linked to the specific newsletter recipient. It is used exclusively for the statistical analysis of newsletter campaigns. The results of these analyses may be used to better tailor future newsletters to the interests of the recipients.
If you do not want your data analyzed by MailChimp, you must unsubscribe from the newsletter. We provide a link for this purpose in every newsletter message. You can also unsubscribe directly by sending an email with the subject line “Unsubscribe from newsletter” to landguet[a]landguet.ch.
Data processing is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You may revoke this consent at any time by unsubscribing from the newsletter. The lawfulness of data processing operations that have already taken place remains unaffected by the revocation.
The data you have provided to us for the purpose of receiving the newsletter will be stored by us until you unsubscribe from the newsletter and will be deleted from both our servers and MailChimp’s servers after you unsubscribe. For more details, please refer to the MailChimp Privacy Policy below.
Conclusion of a Data Processing Agreement
We have entered into a so-called “Data Processing Agreement” with MailChimp, in which we require MailChimp to protect our customers’ data and not to disclose it to third parties. The template of this agreement can be viewed here.
Google Maps
This site uses the Google Maps mapping service via an API. The provider is Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. To use the features of Google Maps, it is necessary to store your IP address. This information is generally transmitted to a Google server in the United States and stored there. The provider of this site has no influence over this data transmission.
The use of Google Maps is in the interest of an appealing presentation and easy locatability of the locations we specify on the website. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. You can find more information on the handling of user data in the Google Privacy Policy.
